The headquarters of Devon Wildlife Trust and is the site of an award winning wildlife garden, looked after by a team of volunteers who have created a nature haven right in the middle of Exeter.


Seeks to promote and protect Devon’s designed landscape heritage – its parks, gardens and cemeteries of special historic interest - for future generations. Also has volunteer vacancies.


Nestled in the heart of the city centre with a friendly cafe and outdoor garden space. One of the garden’s most striking features is the ancient Mulberry Tree, from which the café takes its name; typical of what would have been planted in the eighteenth century when the Centre was still a merchant’s house. A small team of volunteers work in the Mulberry Tree Garden on Thursday afternoons, 2pm-4pm. If you’d like to see what goes on, just turn up and ask at Reception for Gina or Carol.


The Garden is a long term initiative established by members drawn from the students and staff of the University of Exeter and the local community. Gardening sessions Tuesdays from 10am, Wednesdays from 3pm and Saturdays from 10am. Members are often present on Fridays.


National Trust Volunteer group based in and around Exeter. They hold work events (usually on Sunday, twice a month) at different National Trust properties in Devon.


You may know the triangle of garden between The Royal Oak pub and the Exe Bridges roundabout in Okehampton Street. You may have walked past it or sat there in traffic, waiting for the lights to change. The slope along the wall is planted with shrubs and perennials which will help clean the air and also attract bees and other beneficial insects.


Join Friends of Belle Isle Park (FoBIP) as they increase the biodiversity of this beautiful riverside park to aid local wildlife and improve human/nature connection. A great way to meet new friends and make both positive environmental and social impacts whilst keeping fit. Meet every Sunday 10am-1pm.

The Community Garden Project is a supportive environment open to all (donations kindly received), led by practical, skilled gardeners Julie and Kate. They are experienced with working with vulnerable adults, and the community garden welcomes anyone who feels they would benefit and can help out.


You'll find Bowling Green and Goosemoor on the junction of the River Exe and the River Clyst, close to the town of Topsham. It's an ideal spot to watch birds up close, including spring and autumn migrating birds, and winter flocks of waders, ducks and geese feeding and resting, all from the comfort of the Lookout hide.


Just five miles from Exeter city centre, Exminster and Powderham Marshes are great places to see birds all year-round. Enjoy a lovely walk, exploring the marshland, canals, rivers and fields.


This small site, located halfway between Exeter and Exminster, is an excellent place to watch wildfowl and waders.


Sage Green CIC cleared a small piece of land inside the walled garden at Powderham Castle to create a community market garden. The market garden provides a Green Care option for socially prescribed activities for people with mental health conditions as well as a place to come and volunteer to help with the production of local food grown organically.


St Thomas Community Garden is located in St Thomas Pleasure Ground, off Cowick Street, in Exeter (Devon). The aim is to grow food in a sustainable way whilst respecting and enhancing local wildlife; to increase access to locally produced food for all in the neighbourhood; and to strengthen the sense of community.


Wednesdays 2pm-4pm at The X Centre, Commercial Rd, Exeter, EX2 4AD. This wellbeing gardening group offers a friendly, welcome space to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening and growing together.


Fancy growing your own food but not sure where to start? Join us every Tuesday at the Growing Project, on the Prince Charles Road Allotment! Come and get your hands dirty, have a chat over a cuppa, and bring some fruits & veg home


St Sidwell’s Community Centre has a wonderful and varied garden, right in the middle of Exeter. The garden is maintained by a team of volunteers, and includes our sunken vegetable garden. All the fruit and veg grown is used in our café. We use organic and nature friendly techniques in the garden, promoting wildlife and creating a space that can be enjoyed by all in the heart of Exeter.


A gardening and well-being group for 18-25 year olds. Runs for 6 weeks combining gardening, Low-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques and personal growth to help manage difficult emotions, build confidence, and develop resilience.


Theatre Alibi have teamed with Zero Mile Gardens to care for their garden space. Zero Mile Gardens have dreamt up beautiful plans. They began developing the garden space in spring 2024, with initial work supported by the Hendy Foundation. A polytunnel was added in 2025 thanks to National Lottery funding.
