Citizens Advice is the CAB self-help website which is available 24 hours a day. It gives information on your rights and helps you take the first steps in sorting out problems. The site covers a wide range of topics including benefits, employment, housing and has help on debt, consumer and legal issues. There is information in other languages, and also a large number of fact sheets to print off and use for reference.

You can apply for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) if you have a disability or health condition that affects how much you can work. ESA gives you money to help with living costs if you’re unable to work and support to get back into work if you’re able to. You can apply if you’re employed, self-employed or unemployed.

You can apply for New Style Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) to help you when you’re looking for work. You cannot apply for income-based Jobseeker's Allowance any more. You could get Universal Credit at the same time or instead of New Style Jobseeker's Allowance.

Universal Credit is a payment to help with your living costs. It’s paid monthly - or twice a month for some people in Scotland. You may be able to get it if you’re on a low income, out of work or you cannot work.
